Physics treat for BVC students

Young people from Bassingbourn Village College enjoyed a taste of life as physics students at the University of Cambridge this week.

The day was planned as part of the CU Schools Liaison Programme to encourage able students to think ahead to making university and subject choices.

With a morning spent as the guests of Homerton College, the Bassingbourn students were given a tour of the college and its grounds … including the Hogwarts-style dining hall.

The afternoon was spent at the Physics Department in the Cavendish Laboratory. With 31 Nobel prizewinners as alumni, the tour of the department museum was particularly interesting with exhibits including original equipment designed by physicists to carry out their ground-breaking work.

The BVC students then went on to complete a series of practical experiments, ending with a short lecture on Colour by Dr Steve Martin from the Physics Department.
