Year 11 Information

3rd April 2020  Summer_2020_grades_for_GCSE_AS_A_level_EPQ_AEA_in_maths_-_guidance_for_teachers_students_parents

Dear Year 11 student,

I hope you are all keeping well. I know this is a really uncertain time for you all and has not been easy for anyone. It is important that at times like this that we all try to stay positive and think to the future. You are at a very exciting time in your lives, moving on to the next phase. In these few short weeks whilst you are at home, please make the most of the time to prepare for your future. This may be watching TED talks or engaging in MOOCs online, completing classwork set by your teachers, or bridging work that the 6th forms have sent Ms Hields.

I know many of you may be anxious about what is going to happen with regard to grades now the exams have been cancelled. There has just been a statement released this morning with regard to this and I have attached an information booklet for parents and students.

I know how hard you were all working and I can assure you all that staff will be determined to ensure that the grades do justice to each young person as I know how much you deserve the correct and fair grades. This may still leave you with questions, but can I ask that you give us some time to digest and plan for the implementation of this, as this information has only been released to us at the same time as it was released nationally.

I have been asked by some students about what will be happening about the prom and this is another reason for my letter. We have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel the prom in June. We would like to reorganise it at a later date if there is sufficient numbers of students to cover the costs. At this moment in time I do now know when that might be, some suggestions have been a winter ball around the time when we would do the GCSE certificate evening in November. If we can do anything earlier we will endeavour to do so; the suppliers have been contacted and they are happy to change the date to later in the year. I do really want to have an event to say goodbye to you all properly and mark the end of your time at Bassingbourn.   We will still organise Leavers’ Hoodies for those who wish to order them via Total Clothing, our uniform shop.  Details will be sent about this very shortly.

In the meantime keep positive, stay healthy and look after yourselves and your families.

Best wishes

Ms Poulter
